Introduction / History

Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia until it became an independent country in 1993. The Slovak language has some similarities to Czech but is different.

The Slovak diaspora is spread all over Europe but some are in Brazil, Argentina and Australia.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Slovaks have contributed to Australia through athletics, business, the arts and the military.

To maintain their culture in Australia, Slovaks engage in their own folk music. They love going to movies and making pottery. Favorite foods among the Slovaks include cabbage soup and dumplings with cheese. Their favorite sports include soccer, ice hockey and tennis.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Slovaks are traditional Catholics and many are atheists. Others adhere to religious rituals and New Age practices to fill the spiritual void.

What Are Their Needs?

In Slovakia, there is a shortage of rented houses. Those in diaspora need to learn a new language and how to deal with their daily needs.

Prayer Points

Pray that the religious traditionalists and even atheists will come to a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pray for Slovaks to look to God for all their spiritual and material needs.
Pray for the Slovakian Church to take up its role of being Christ’s ambassador to the lost.
