Introduction / History

The Otoro Nubas are a Muslim group living in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Sibir Festivals are a time to celebrate a new season with wrestling tournaments. There is lots of music, dance, and sacrifices of livestock leading to feasts.

Much of the time the Otoro Nuba people must navigate making a living in a land that can explode with fighting at any time. There is always the danger of tribal warfare in the Nuba Mountains, home to 90 tribes.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They are unusual in that they are mainly Muslim, but there is a large Christian minority among them. Members of both religious communities struggle with animistic beliefs. Often, they think they need local spirits for practical help.

What Are Their Needs?

The Nuba peoples have faced decades of conflict leading to displacement, poverty, and limited access to services. The war zone situation has left them bereft of adequate infrastructure, from healthcare, potable water, to education. It s very difficult for them to get adequate food when everything can be destroyed by soldiers.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to do a major work in the Nuba Mountains, demonstrating his holiness, lovingkindness, and power.
