Introduction / History

The Sihan people are about 35 kilometers (20 miles) inland from Madang, the provincial capital.
The Sihan language is the primary language of the Sihan people of all generations. However, the Sihan people don't have any scripture in their language. This is despite that most identify as Christian.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Around January 2020, a Sihan village teenager was murdered and left by the side of the road. Authorities suspect Sorcery Accusation-Related Violence (SARV), which is gruesome violence perpetrated against individuals who are accused of practicing witchcraft. Despite public outcry from Christian religious and political leaders, SARV has been increasing across Papua New Guinea, particularly in remote areas.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though they are mainly Christian, the Sihan people need to know they are loved by God. They need to hunger for more of him.

What Are Their Needs?

Almost half the population are under 15 years old and most won't live to 60. Malaria, dysentery and preventable infections are the most common causes of death.

Prayer Points

Ask God to assign workers to translate the Bible into the Sihan language.
Pray for their spiritual, physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
Pray to remove the horrors of Sorcery Accusation-Related Violence (SARV).
