The early Miami tribe were known to grow a unique kind of corn. They were at odds with the US soon after the Revolutionary War since they lived in Ohio, what was then called the Northwest Territory. They were defeated and soon settlers arrived. The US broke a number of treaties with them.
The Miami tribe lives in Indiana and Oklahoma. They speak English rather than their traditional language. There is a project at the Miami University of Ohio to revive their language.
The Indiana-based Miami still do not have recognition from the US federal government. For that reason, they are raising funds for their basic needs like repairing schools.
About two-thirds adhere to ancient ethnic religious practices while about one third are Christian.
The Miami people, especially those in Indiana, have an abundance of physical needs. Christ followers can help in many ways.
Pray for Miami disciples to make more disciples.
Pray for their spirituality to be centered on Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Pray for spiritual hunger to be satisfied by a deep relationship with the only savior.
