The Mbole are a Bantu-speaking people living mainly in central Democratic Republic of Congo, especially along forested river systems. Their history is shaped by migration, clan formation, and interaction with neighboring peoples through trade, marriage, and shared land use. Traditional leadership and customary law have long guided community life.
Most Mbole families depend on subsistence farming, fishing, and hunting. Cassava, plantains, maize, and river fish are dietary staples, often prepared in stews with palm oil. Extended families live near one another, with elders holding respected authority. Community celebrations mark harvests, marriages, and rites of passage, reinforced by music, dance, and storytelling.
Mbole beliefs traditionally center on a high creator God, ancestral spirits, and the influence of the spiritual world on daily life. Many identify as Christian, yet biblical faith is often mixed with traditional practices such as ancestor veneration, fear of curses, and reliance on spiritual intermediaries.
Clear biblical teaching is needed so faith in Christ is not blended with fear-based spiritual practices. Access to education, healthcare, and stable livelihoods remains limited, especially in rural areas affected by poverty and instability. Reconciliation and unity are important where social tensions and hardship have weakened trust. A faithful translation of the Scriptures, discipleship materials, and evangelism resources in the Mbole language is needed to further Christian growth and make disciples of Christ among the Mbole people and beyond.
Pray for Mbole believers to grow in confidence in Christ alone and to share the gospel within their own communities.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to thrust out Mbole Christians to reach those without the gospel.
Pray for peace, provision, and healing for families facing economic and health challenges.
Pray for godly local leaders and workers to disciple others and strengthen the church.
Pray for a faithful translation of the Scriptures, discipleship materials, and evangelism resources in the Mbole language.
