Introduction / History

The Nepalese in the United States are Americans who have their origins in Nepal. They began to come to America in the last century. They are usually called Nepalis here, though Nepali is a catch all for several ethnic groups in Nepal. This includes Paharis and even a group from Bhutan, and the Nepali Bhasi. For the sake of simplicity we will refer to them as Nepalis. Many live in New York.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Many Nepalese emigrated because of poor conditions in Nepal due to the Nepalese Civil War. They have social, religious and cultural celebrations such as the Nepali New Year.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Nepalese in America are mainly Hindu.

What Are Their Needs?

These Hindus need Christ followers to share their faith with them. As it stands, most Americans think of mission work as something you do elsewhere. This inhibits the spread of the gospel to unreached people groups in North America.

Prayer Points

Pray that American Christians will help lead the Nepalese in the USA to the cross and the empty grave.
Pray for Nepalis to take advantage of freedom of religion to investigate the claims of Christ.
Pray for Nepali disciples to disciple others.
Pray for a church planting movement among Nepalis that will spread to other countries.
