The Ugana Lavatbura-Lamusong are an indigenous people of Papua New Guinea, located mainly in New Ireland Province, speaking the Lavatbura-Lamusong language. They are part of the many small, linguistically distinct communities that developed through long-term village isolation.
Life is village-based, centered on subsistence gardening, fishing, and small-scale trade typical of coastal PNG societies. Extended families live communally, with strong kinship ties guiding marriage, leadership, and conflict resolution. Celebrations often include feasts, music, and dance, with staple foods such as root crops, fish, and tropical fruits.
Most Ugana Lavatbura-Lamusong identify as Christian, but biblical resources are very limited, with only portions of Scripture available and little access to media like the Jesus Film. Traditional beliefs and practices likely remain influential alongside Christian identity.
Greater access to full Scripture in their language would strengthen understanding of the gospel. Consistent discipleship and trained local leaders could help deepen authentic faith. Improved health, sanitation, and education would support overall well-being in remote settings.
Pray for the faithful translation and wide distribution of the Scriptures, evangelism materials, and discipleship resources in the Lavatbura-Lamusong language.
Pray for local believers to grow and become witnesses to their people and the regions beyond.
Pray asking God to raise workers and partnerships.
Pray for improved healthcare, clean water, and sustainable livelihoods.
