Many of the Laotians came to America from Laos as refugees after the Vietnam War and after Laos became a communist country about thirty to forty years ago.
A large number of Laotian Americans live in California. Many live in the San Francisco Bay region, in Fort Worth and in the Sacramento and Seattle regions.
Laotian Americans tend to live below the poverty level. Many leave high school. They speak Lao and English.
The Laotian Americans have many Buddhist temples in the USA. There is an online magazine LaoAmericans.com that gives stories of Laotian Americans. Some of them have achieved success at badminton.
