Introduction / History

In Guinea, the Kpelles have their own dialect. They are defined by their language, which includes a complete Bible and several audio tools.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Guinean Kpelles are slash-and-burn subsistence farmers. Families and communities work together to grow cassava, rice, fruits, and vegetables for their own consumption. Cash crops include kola nuts, sugarcane, and peanuts.

Each Kpelle family has a man and his wives, and their children. Each village has a chief, but also a paramount chief who settles disputes, maintains order, and negotiates with outsiders. Kpelle secret societies enforce social norms and ensure that youth are initiated at the right time.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Roughly half of the Guinean Kpelles are Muslim and almost half are Christian. No matter which of these two world religions they adhere to, they are also faithful to their ancestral spirits, which they believe determine their destiny.

What Are Their Needs?

Like most West African tribes, the Guinean Kpelles need better farming techniques and easily accessible medical care.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to bless the Guinean Kpelle s harvests as a testimony of his sovereignty and goodness.
Pray for Guinean Kpelle leaders to open the door to Christ's ambassadors.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out Holy Spirit-anointed workers among the Guinean Kpelles.
Pray for a powerful movement to Christ among every people in Guinea.
