Introduction / History

The Jomangs live in southern Sudan and speak Sudanese Arabic. Specifically, their homeland is in the Nuba Mountains. They are also known as Ajomang or Arabized Talodi.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They make their living through a combination of subsistence agriculture and raising livestock. They also weave baskets and make ceramic pottery that they either use or sell.

The Jomangs have extended families and strong kinship ties. Their grandparents and other elders are given much respect. Marriages are arranged by families, and they involve a series of negotiations and a bride price. Their weddings are a community celebration. Celebrations are loaded with music, dancing, and storytelling.

What Are Their Beliefs?

About 90% of the Jomangs are Muslim, and the rest are animistic.

What Are Their Needs?

Like all people who live in the Nuba Mountains, the Jomangs need safety and protection. There has been sporadic inter-tribal warfare in their region, not to mention the threat from insurgents and the Sudanese government.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to bring peace and justice to the Nuba Mountains.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to give them the spiritual hunger it takes to seek and find Jesus Christ no matter what the cost.
Pray for Jomang Muslims will recognize that their works will never redeem them.
