Introduction / History

The Japanese began to live in Micronesia just before the beginning of the 20th century. The Spanish ruled for a time and then Germany took control at the beginning of World War I. the Japanese took control from Germany and ruled till the end of World War II. Many Japanese arrived between the two wars. After World War II many Japanese were sent back to Japan. Most of those who were mixed Japanese and Micronesian and remained in Micronesia. The Japanese-Micronesians had the main positions at work. Micronesia and Japan began to work together in business enterprises in the 1970s. They speak Micronesian languages and Japanese. Most of them live in Pohnpei and in Chuuk in Micronesia.

We know very little about the lifestyles of the Japanese in Micronesia.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Some of the Japanese in Micronesia follow Buddhism and Shintoism. Some, particularly those who are mixed Japanese and Micronesian, have become Christians.

The Japanese in Micronesia need a spiritual hunger that will motivate them to seek and find the only Savior.
