Introduction / History

The Gofa name came from a term for “emerged from the land.” Others thing the Gofa people came from clans that settled in their area. Their name might come from a military leader. The Gofas moved south looking for fertile land and clashed with those who lived there. Eventually, they evicted those who lived there.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Gofa’s kinship structure is complicated, especially when it comes to cousins.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though there remains some traditional religion, the Gofas are largely Christianized. Over half are Evangelical.

What Are Their Needs?

Like the others who live in the Gama Gofa region, the Gofas struggle with having enough clean water.

Prayer Points

Pray for their physical needs to be met.
Pray that soon their expressed faith in Christ will result in many going as workers to tribes that lack a gospel witness.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to bring revival to Gofa churches.
Pray for Gofa disciples to make more disciples.
