Introduction / History

The Gascon people speak Occitan, which is Latin based like French and Spanish. Until recently their language was looked down upon in France as a poor man’s language. That language is likely to be replaced by Spanish and French.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Gascon people are known for their colorful festivals which feature poetry and traditional music. They have their own musical instruments. These include a three-holed flute, a stringed drum and their own form of a bagpipe.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Like the other indigenous peoples of France and Spain, most Gascons are Roman Catholic. That religion provides them with a place for weddings and funerals, but few closely follow the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Many are secularized.

What Are Their Needs?

The Gascon people need to allow Jesus Christ to transform their lives, their families and their communities.

Prayer Points

Pray for a Holy Spirit led revival in Roman Catholic churches throughout France and Spain.
Pray for Gascon people who love the Lord to disciple others to disciple others.
