Introduction / History

The Domu speakers live among mangroves along the coast, east of Cape Rodney and also slightly inland.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Abau town is a four to five hour walk northeast along an unsealed road. This is a walk that young people need to take to attend the only high school in their district. Because of the difficulties of obtaining an education, three in four Domu people are unable to read.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Ninety five percent of Domu identify themselves as Christians.

What Are Their Needs?

Nonetheless, they don't have a Domu Bible. While many love Jesus, they struggle to understand his teaching. Few of them can read, and their command of secondary languages is not such that they naturally understand God's word in those languages.

Prayer Points

Thank God for the blessing of Global Recordings Network, which has recorded some teaching in Domu.
Pray that the Domu would have God's word translated into their own language.
Give thanks that some Domu people can understand some of the Mailu, Suau, Hiri Motu, or English languages. All of these secondary languages at least have the New Testament.
