Introduction / History

The Degenang people group are on the south coast of Madang, close to the Morobe Province border. They live in the two villages of Seure and Sel. In Seure, many children only speak Tok Pisin. In Sel, children grow up speaking Tok Pisin but eventually learn to speak their traditional language of Degenang. All adults also speak Tok Pisin, and there is a shift in the language towards Tok Pisin, especially among the younger people.

What Are Their Lives Like?

We know little about their daily lives.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Almost all the Degenan people profess Christ. However, they need his word in their heart language so they can fully embrace it.

What Are Their Needs?

Pray for respect between older and younger generations.

Prayer Points

Pray that the Deganang people will have adequate technology and internet coverage to be able to access biblical teaching.
Pray to the Lord of the harvest for workers to bring the good news of Jesus to the people in a language that they understand well. For many, this will be the traditional Degenang language.
Give thanks that thirteen minutes of audio Bible teaching has been made available online by Global Recordings Network.
