The mountains of Nayarit, Mexico provided the Cora people a natural shield from the Spanish Empire until the 1700s. Finally, in 1722, roughly 200 years into their rule in Mexico, the Spaniards conquered and “Christianized” the Cora people. They speak the Cora dialect and Spanish.
They do they best they can to grow corn and beans in the mountains of Mexico. Because of their high location the Cora have more independence from the Mexican government, but they also have fewer services such as roads.
Cora religion is a syncretistic blend of traditional religion and Roman Catholicism. They have their own gods and believe in sacred caves and plants.
The Cora people need their lives to be devoted to Jesus Christ alone, so he can give them life to the full.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to woo Cora people into a vibrant, unshakable faith in Jesus Christ.
Pray for Christ followers among the Cora to disciple others who will disciple others.
Pray for the Lord’s powerful transformation of Cora families as a testimony to others of his goodness and love.
