Kogi in Colombia

Kogi in Colombia

The Kogi are one of the indigenous tribes that evaded Spanish conquistadors 500 years ago. They moved higher into the mountains where they now grow and trade coffee, living apart from outsiders as much as possible. Their homeland cannot always be protected from the general public. The Kogi are very concerned about the destruction of their physical environment which includes glaciers, mountains, deserts, rainforests and wetlands. To them, exploiting their environment will result in worldwide destruction. They have contacted BBC News, and there have been documentaries about their predicament, but the destruction continues.

Ministry Obstacles

The Kogi regard outsiders as "Little Brothers," a term of endearment for those who are ignorant of essential truths about the environment. It will be difficult for them to accept truth from those who come as Christ’s ambassadors.

Outreach Ideas

Christ’s ambassadors with the right skills can join the Kogi people in their attempts to protect their environment.

Scripture Focus
