Lakhera   lah-KEE-rah

The Lakhera are said to originate from lord Shiva, who created them to prepare bangles and bracelets for his wife, Parvati. They have traditionally been workers in glass and jewelry. Currently, however, they are also engaged in many other vocations. Some worship Lord Shiva, while others worship Lord Vishnu. Others are involved in ancestor worship. In a marriage ceremony, the most significant ritual is circling the sacred fire seven times. The Lakhera sometimes worship the tools they use in their trades. They traditionally exchange food and water with neighboring communities except the Churha, Chamar, Balmiki, and Dhanak, which they consider below themselves in social rank.

Ministry Obstacles

There has been strong resistance to the gospel in some areas of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, the states where most Lakhera reside.

Pray that Indian believers will be given a desire to tell the Lakhera community about the Savior, Jesus Christ. Pray that any secret believers will be nurtured and protected by the Lord's Spirit. Pray for Christ-centered fellowship. Please pray that the Lord will send workers to the Lakhera who will be able to accurately tell them of the Creator God and his Son, Jesus Christ. Pray for God to give them understanding and faith to believe.
