Khmer in Korea, South

Khmer in Korea, South

The Khmer speak Khmer, the national language of Cambodia. There is a sizable Khmer population in northwest South Korea, working mostly in industry. Khmer are Buddhist, although relics of ethnic religions such as ancestor worship (praying to deceased ancestors) and spirit worship are very real.

Ministry Obstacles

Khmer and Korean are unrelated languages. Cultural differences are great, even though they both have Buddhist backgrounds.

Outreach Ideas

Korean Christians could open welcoming centers for Khmer people and teach them Korean using Korean-Khmer New Testaments. Koreans could host Khmer speakers and help them get settled in Korea.

Scripture Focus

"Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you."  Jeremiah 29:12

Scripture Prayer

Pray that this blessing will reach today’s people group soon.

Prayer Focus

Pray the Korean Church would take advantage of this evangelistic opportunity to reach these unreached Buddhists. Pray that the Khmer presence would spark interest in frontier mission. Pray for families of Khmer believers who are loving and serving others to grow reproducing churches throughout South Korea. Pray for a chain reaction of families reaching families, resulting in thousands of new believers who share their faith with others. Pray that churches and believers would bless their entire people group in such a way that God's love will change the Khmer people like yeast changes dough.
