Yehlmo   HYEL-moh

Women have a prominent role in tribal Yehlmo society, carrying a variety of responsibilities. Women manage family expenditures, care for livestock, transport potable water, collect fuel and fodder when necessary, and possess roles in ritual and religious spheres. While they do help with agriculture, men are responsible for plowing and cutting large trees.

Ministry Obstacles

Almost all Yehlmo are Tibetan Buddhists. Until recently, each family was required to send at least one son to the Buddhist monastery to be trained as a monk. Although this is no longer a binding law, most families continue to practice Buddhism. Most Yehlmo have never heard the gospel, although portions of the Bible were translated into their Hyolmo language in 1977.

Pray that this people begin to experience the unfailing love of God and come to the knowledge of Christ.

Prayer Focus

Pray for Christians to engage the Yehlmo with the gospel and provide them with Scripture in their language. Pray for the Lord to raise up disciples among the Yehlmo who would go on to make more disciples. Pray the Lord would draw the Yehlmo to himself in faith and repentance.
