Ambattan (Hindu traditions)

The Ambattan name is derived from two ancient Sanskrit words meaning "to stand," and "near." Thus, their name means "one who stands close by." Their traditional work involves being nearby, such as physicians or barbers. Along with those two, many work as day laborers or own their own businesses. Some are farmers. Family leaders arrange marriages for their sons and daughters, which are intended to be lifelong unions between one man and one woman. Upon the father's death, the sons inherit the property, with the oldest son becoming the head of the household. A caste council looks after the interests of the Hindu Ambattan community.

Ministry Obstacles

They are entirely Hindu. Almost no one from their community follows the Lord, so someone must go to them to share the gospel.

Scripture Focus

"The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God."  Isaiah 52:10

Scripture Prayer

Pray for today’s people group to share in the victory of the Lord by becoming part of His family.

Prayer Focus

Pray that the Ambattan caste council leaders come to Jesus Christ to open the door for a movement to Christ. Pray for spiritual hunger, openness, and discernment. Ask God to send bold and loving workers to go to them, and that the Lord will bless them abundantly in a way they cannot deny.
