The Gilaki are one of the Caspian peoples, inhabiting the southern coastal region of the Caspian Sea. The inhabitants of Gilan Province have often been the source of resistance and reform movements within Iran. After World War I, the Gilaki demanded national reform and independence for their region. The Apostle Bartholomew may have spent time evangelizing in this area of the world around 50 A.D. Although Christianity was once a powerful presence here, now it is extremely weak. Today, the Gilaki are virtually all Muslim.
Iran is hostile to any kind of overt Christian evangelistic effort.
Scripture portions are available in the Gilaki language, as are other resources, including the JESUS Film. They can download these on the internet, or Iranian believers can take them to Gilaki communities.
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns." Isaiah 52:7
Pray for the Lord to send people with “beautiful feet” to bring good news to today’s people group.
We know of no Christ followers among the Gilaki people, so pray for many to come to Christ in the years to come. Pray that the Gilaki people would increasingly hunger to receive forgiveness for their sin, forgiveness that only Jesus Christ can offer. May they be dissatisfied with a religion that offers no pardon and no power for living. Pray for them to be sensitized to their need for a sin-free Savior.
