Bhuyiar

The word bhuiyar has been derived from the word bhuinhar (Sanskrit, bhumikara), meaning landholder. Bhuiyars live as landowners and laborers. They place themselves among the Sudras in the caste system. Cross-cousin marriages are prevalent. Thus, married couples and family units will worship the main community deities, such as Sewariyamai, Maharanidevi, Bhawani, and Bansaradevi, as well as worship village deities such as Dih, Ghanshyam, Kali, Durga, and Mahadev.

Ministry Obstacles

The task of ministering in Uttar Pradesh, the primary home of the Bhuyiar, can be overwhelming for Christians, since the gospel presence is so small in this state.
