Lohar (Hindu traditions) in India

The Lohar are nomadic blacksmiths who travel from village to village to sell their goods. The Lohar lead hard lives. Although they work hard, they live in extreme poverty. People assume the handmade goods produced by the Lohars are inferior to machine made ones. In addition, many cannot read or write because of the nomadic lifestyle they lead in which few or none have gone to school. To make matters even worse, there are negative stereotypes about nomads, such as the idea that they are thieves.

Ministry Obstacles

It would be very difficult for believers to have contact with nomads, especially those in a place like Rajasthan where only one in 1,000 is a believer.

Outreach Ideas

Are there believers who are willing to take the time to live near the Lohar, find out how they live, and appreciate them for who they are?

Scripture Focus

"With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation."  Isaiah 12:3

Scripture Prayer

May many from this people group drink deeply from the fountain of His salvation and mercy!

Prayer Focus

There are few, if any, believers among the Hindu Lohar, so pray that the Lord would visit them with His goodness and mercy, and that they would know him personally. Pray that they would receive the education they need to thrive in 21st century India. Above all, pray for their hearts; pray for them to be open to allowing the blessings of Jesus to penetrate their communities and families.
