Chaungtha in Myanmar (Burma)

Chaungtha in Myanmar (Burma)

The Chaungtha people inhabit central parts of Myanmar. Their name means "people of the valley." The Chaungtha are ethno-linguistically related to the Burmese. In recent decades many have chosen to identify themselves as Burmese, hoping to benefit from being aligned with the majority ruling people. The principal occupation is rice cultivation along with maize, cotton, tobacco and opium poppies.

Ministry Obstacles

The Chaungtha embrace Buddhism and a belief in evil spirits. Bible resources are not available in their language, probably because it and Burmese are similar, so a separate translation seems unwarranted.

Outreach Ideas

Rural Chaungtha lack access to modern medicine. Teams of believers can demonstrate the love of God by providing medical care and by installing solar panels for their energy needs.

Scripture Focus

"Who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,"  Psalm 103:3

Scripture Prayer

Pray that this people group will flee to the Lord who alone can forgive sin.

Prayer Focus

Pray for Chaungtha Christian believers to be fervent in prayer and ready to disciple others. Pray for dedicated intercessors who will commit to sustained prayer. Pray for the Chaungtha to hear the good news about Christ, who alone can free them from evil spirits and forgive their sins. Ask the Lord to send workers to disciple them and teach them to disciple others. Pray that Christian resources would become available in Rakhine, the heart language of most Chaungtha. Pray the Lord would raise up a growing church movement.
