Sonar (Muslim traditions)   suh-NAR

The Muslim Sonar trace their origins to Hindu mythology, where they are said to descend from a divine artisan created by the Hindu god Vishnu. Most Sonars today are Hindu, Sikh, or Jain, with only a small subset identifying as Muslim, mainly in northern India and a few in Pakistan's Punjab Province. Traditionally skilled in jewelry-making, many Sonars remain craftsmen, while others have become moneylenders, shopkeepers, or landowners. They marry within their community, favor nuclear families, and are increasingly pursuing higher education.

Ministry Obstacles

As a generally middle-class or wealthy group, Muslim Sonars may feel self-sufficient and unaware of their spiritual need for salvation. Their belief in salvation based solely on Allah's will and works righteousness limits openness to the gospel and Christian engagement.

Pray that they will put all their trust in Him alone!

Prayer Focus

Pray for humility within the Sonar community to recognize their need for forgiveness. Ask God to reveal his provision for salvation through Jesus Christ to the Muslim Sonars. Intercede for spiritually open hearts and divine encounters that lead them to seek truth beyond cultural or religious traditions. Pray for the Lord to send dreams of the Risen Christ to Muslim leaders of the Sonar family.
