Jat (Sikh traditions)   jot

The Jat are a large community, living primarily in India. Their name comes from the Arabic word jatta, meaning the people of that region. Historically, the Jat arrived on the subcontinent as invaders, though they never established dynasties of their own. Over time, they mixed with other invaders and long-standing Indian populations, forming a distinct identity often tied to heritage and occupation. Today, Sikh Jat retain a strong sense of cultural pride and tradition, carrying forward practices that connect them to their past.

Ministry Obstacles

Sikh Jat living outside their homeland often strive to preserve their old ways in a new environment. Many parents send their children to special Sikh schools to preserve their language, faith, and traditions. Christianity is often dismissed as a Western religion, making them hesitant to consider its message for themselves.

Pray that this people group will understand that they can enjoy the eternal love of the Lord.

Prayer Focus

Pray that the Lord will bless Sikh Jat families so richly that they recognize that he alone is worthy of praise and worship. Ask for loving workers who will live among them and patiently share Christ until there are Sikh Jat disciples ready to disciple others. Pray for God to prepare their hearts to hear and believe the gospel, so that whole families and communities might come to faith in Jesus.
