Jhojha (Hindu traditions) in India

The men of Jhojha were once soldiers in the armies of north India. Their name Jhojha comes from a word meaning, “battle.” The Jhojha own small and medium sized farms. The Jhojha are an endogamous community, that is, they prefer marrying close kin. The families arrange marriages with the consent of the young people. Sons inherit their father's property. The newly married couple lives near or with the groom's parents. Monogamy or marriage to one wife is the general rule. The Jhojha have active caste councils, which deal with community welfare as well as an instrument of social control. The Jhojha are not vegetarians but, as Hindus, they do not eat beef. The Jhojha speak Hindi, a language that has an abundance of gospel materials.

Ministry Obstacles

They need to see the love and mercy of Christ lived out in practical ways by Christians in visible ways. Few, if any, will ever see such a reality. There are no known Christians and they live in a very unreached part of northern India.

Scripture Focus

"Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul."  Psalm 66:16

Scripture Prayer

Pray for bold testimonies of the Lord’s deeds to come from today’s people group.

Prayer Focus

Pray the Jhojha would seek and find the true God of the Bible. Pray that the Lord would lead Christian workers to befriend and serve the Jhojha. Pray that the Lord would raise up Bible-believing churches in the Jhojha community.
