Arabic-speaking Moroccans in Morocco

In 670, the Umayyads of Damascus completed the first Islamic conquest of the North African coastal plain, settling in what is now Morocco, which they called "Maghreb al Aqsa" or "the Far West." Arabs have ruled this region ever since, which includes the original Berber tribal groups of North Africa, some of whom were Christians before the Arab invasion. This cultural mix resulted in scholarly advances in science, mathematics, astronomy, geography and medicine.

Ministry Obstacles

Although Morocco allows people from other religions to have religious freedom, the King of Morocco has declared that all native Moroccans are Sunni Muslims. Historically, ministry in Morocco won individuals away from their families and gathered them into new churches. As a result, many view Christianity as a threat to their families and communities.

Outreach Ideas

Christian businessmen may have opportunities to apply the model Jesus gave in Matthew 10 and Luke 10 to find persons and households of peace and bless whole families and households among these Arab peoples.

Scripture Focus

"O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help."  Psalm 86:5

Scripture Prayer

Thank the Lord that He is eager to offer love and forgiveness to peoples who turn to Him for help!

Prayer Focus

Pray for the Holy Spirit to work powerfully through the many people witnessing to the Moroccan Arabs. Pray for Moroccan Arab believers to become effective and fruitful in sowing God's word among their families and communities to fuel a movement of God's blessing spreading from household to household. Pray that a strong movement to Jesus will bring whole Moroccan Arab families and communities into a rich experience of God's blessing.
