Rongba Amdo in China

Rongba Amdo in China

The Rongba Amdo are part of the Tibetan nationality. The name Rongba means “farmer” in Tibetan. The Rongba Amdo language has two dialects and contains more Chinese loanwords than any other Tibetan language in China. Rongba is only partially intelligible with the three other Amdo languages; however, all Tibetans use the same written script. The Rongba Amdo are largely unconcerned about the outside world. They celebrate the Tibetan New Year in February, according to the Tibetan lunar calendar. In the past, celebrations commenced the moment the peach tree blossomed. It is a time for relatives to get together and celebrate the past year's events.

Ministry Obstacles

Their disinterest in the outside world as well as the spiritual power used in shamanism has kept the Rongba Amdo from seeking spiritual power that faith in Christ offers.

Scripture Focus

"You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory."  Psalm 73:24

Scripture Prayer

Pray that today’s people group will seek God’s counsel and be led to His glorious destiny.

Prayer Focus

Pray for power encounters between Christ and shamanism that will prove who the people should follow. Pray that as the peach tree blossoms, symbolizing new life that provides more life, the Rongba Amdo eyes would open to see the Father's loving provision and protection. There are several audio and visual gospel resources in their language. Pray for wide distribution and heartfelt acceptance of them. Pray for a movement to Christ among them that will see the Rongba Amdo concern themselves with the rest of China and bring that lifesaving message to them.
