Situ Jiarong in China

Situ Jiarong in China

In the early 1900s American Baptists and the Border Mission of the Church of Christ came to work among the Jiarong. In the 1930s a draft translation of the book of Jonah was in progress when the invasion of the Red Army in 1936 made work impossible. All materials were lost in the war. The majority of Situ Jiarong are farmers, herding livestock and growing crops along the river basins in central Sichuan Province. Several urban Jiarong are merchants and shop owners.

Ministry Obstacles

Almost all Jiarong to the west are Tibetan Buddhists, but many of the Situ Jiarong have adopted the polytheistic practices of the Qiang peoples. Their ties to these religions keep them closed to teachings from the outside.

Scripture Focus

"Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the LORD; exult before him!"  Psalm 68:4

Scripture Prayer

May today’s people group feel His holy presence when they worship Him.

Prayer Focus

Pray the Situ Jiarong would understand and respond to Christ. Pray for the Lord to provide for their needs as a testimony of his power and love. Pray that the people would have a spiritual hunger that will open their hearts to the King of kings.
