Ahom people live in India. They are descendants of Tai people who entered the Brahamaputra Valley in the early thirteenth century. Most live in Assam and speak Assamese. Ahom people have intermarried with other people groups. Most Ahom people practice the Hindu religion, but some are Buddhists. Some follow their old ethnic religion. They worship ancestors, believing they will keep them safe. They believe that when a dead person goes to heaven, he becomes a god to be worshiped.
Fear is a debilitating factor in all areas of a person's life. Introducing the one true God to Ahom people cannot be accomplished through human effort alone. Only the Holy Spirit can reach them through obedient, surrendered people - servants bought with the blood of Jesus.
The complete Bible has been translated into the Assamese language. Audio and visual resources are also available. Perhaps Holy Spirit-led believers can take these resources to them.
"Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!" Psalm 43:3
Pray that this people group will respond to the Lord’s light and truth.
Pray that God would give the Ahom dreams and visions, leading them to salvation. Pray Indian Christians would help them begin their own movement to Christ that will bless their community for eternity.
