Kimr in Sudan

Kimr in Sudan

The Kimr are a tribe belonging to a larger group known as the Tama. This larger group is concentrated along the border of Chad and Sudan and is made up of several ethnic groups. The Tama make their living by farming and raising livestock. In most regions where the Kimr and Tama live, education is not readily available. The schools that do exist are Islamic schools that are attended only by the boys. Because of this, illiteracy among the people is very high, though some can afford to send their children outside the area to attend school. The Tama tribes are all Muslim and practice Islamic traditions, holidays and celebrations; however, many also practice animism and witchcraft alongside Islam.

Ministry Obstacles

The literacy rate for the Tama language as given by the Ethnologue as 0%. The gospel message needs to come in oral form.

Scripture Focus

"By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life."  Psalm 42:8

Scripture Prayer

Pray for many from this people group to find the Lord’s unfailing love and respond with praise and worship.

Prayer Focus

Pray for rising literacy levels and better employment opportunities. Gospel recordings are available in the Tama language, and some of the Kimr speak Arabic, which has several good resources available. Pray the Kimr, especially the youth, would gain access to gospel recordings and videos. Pray for people to help them in education and in being able to manage their natural resources.
