Miranha in Brazil

Miranha in Brazil

The Miranha (or Bora) tribe lives in the Amazon region of Brazil. The Miranha move about to different regions because of their work of selling fish and fruit. One new advantage that they have is that they speak Portuguese. In addition to Brazil, they live in Colombia and in Peru. They live mostly in forest settlements and speak Bora. They are suited to their environment, using bows and arrows for weapons and having an excellent knowledge about plants.

Ministry Obstacles

Because of their harsh environment, outside evangelical efforts encounter many obstacles in adapting to it as well as relating to these very isolated people groups. Also, the government of Brazil is trying to protect the small tribes from contact with outsiders.

Outreach Ideas

There needs to be intense and consistent prayer for the Miranha people before there will be a breakthrough.

Scripture Focus

"Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!"  Psalm 43:3

Scripture Prayer

Pray that this people group will respond to the Lord’s light and truth.

Prayer Focus

Pray that South American Christians would accept the challenge of reaching their own isolated indigenous people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray too that the government of Brazil would allow the evangelization of small tribes of the Amazon. Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
