Alagwa in Tanzania

Alagwa in Tanzania

The Alagwa live in the north central region of Tanzania. They are farmers, and their principal crops are maize and millet. They work cooperatively to cultivate large fields, raise livestock, build houses and roads, and dig wells. The Alagwa are a very reserved people, slow to receive outsiders. Some of their reserved behavior is evident in the way they build and care for their homes. Their quiet reserve also extends to their religious lives. Christian missionaries, whether expatriates or Tanzanian, have historically left in discouragement from lack of response.

Ministry Obstacles

The Alagwa people are devout Muslims who follow the teachings of Mohammed. This can be an obstacle because they are blind to the truth of Christ's finished work on the cross.

Outreach Ideas

The Alagwa are farmers who would deeply understand many of Jesus' farming parables. These parables could penetrate the hearts of the Alagwa.

Scripture Focus

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful."  Hebrews 10:23

Scripture Prayer

Pray that the believers in today’s people group would hold fast to the hope they have in Christ.

Prayer Focus

Pray for the Lord to equip workers to reach out to the Alagwa people. Pray that the Alagwa people would have a spiritual hunger that will open their hearts to the King of kings. Pray for workers who are driven by the love and boldness of the Holy Spirit to go to them. Pray for a movement to Christ among them to begin this decade.
