Buginese in Malaysia
boo-ghee-NEES
Many Buginese in Malaysia are landlords of large coconut and coffee plantations, while some are smallholders and fishermen. Buginese are also known to be excellent craftsmen, for example, building houses without using nails. Being proud of their self-image, many are active in reviving their culture, language and heritage, though many younger ones cannot speak their language anymore due to assimilation into the Malay community through intermarriage. However, some customs remain highly esteemed; for example, those who serve should not turn their backs on those who eat, and no one should leave the dining area until the entire meal is finished.
Ministry Obstacles Pride is a hindrance to repentance and freedom in Christ. There are currently no Buginese Christ followers in Malaysia to show them the way to the cross and the empty grave.
Scripture Focus "For behold, he who forms the mountains and creates the wind, and declares to man what is his thought, who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the LORD, the God of hosts, is his name!" Amos 4:13
Scripture Prayer Pray that this people group seeks and finds the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. Pray that God’s Word become available to those who are seeking Him.
Prayer Focus Pray for doors of opportunity to bless the Buginese by helping them preserve their unique culture designed by their creator.
Pray for a massive movement to Christ among the Buginese in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out workers to the Buginese.
