Gola in Liberia
GOH-lah

The Gola are said to be one the earliest tribes to settle in Liberia, and like their Kissi neighbors, they have lighter skin than other Liberian groups. They are known as a very proud people. They are organized into clans, which tend to be more like territorial units rather than kinship groups. For a majority of the Gola, life revolves around farming. They are largely Muslim, yet incorporate features of traditional African religions into their Islamic faith. Ancestor worship is commonly practiced. In some regions they perform animal sacrifices. They reside in both Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Ministry Obstacles
The Gola are a proud people. Pride often keeps people from humbly accepting the gifts of God.

Outreach Ideas
Liberia has many evangelical Christians in other tribes. Perhaps the Lord will lead some of these believers to carry the good news about Jesus to the Gola people.

Scripture Focus
"Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble."  Daniel 4:37

Scripture Prayer
Pray for leaders of this people group to repent before the Lord Almighty like this king.

Prayer Focus
Please pray for the Gola who know Christ as Savior, that they will live holy lives, honoring the Lord with their speech and with their conduct. Pray the Gola people would be given an increasing interest in knowing and serving Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Pray for a movement to Christ among the Gola people this decade.
