Marathi speaking Jewish in Zimbabwe
mah-RAH-tee

During the days of the British colonization of India, the colonizers sent indentured people of India to serve in Zimbabwe. Among them were the Marathis, who hailed from the state of Maharashtra. The Marathis are defined by the name of the language they speak, which is Marathi. From being low-wage laborers the Marathi speakers have thrived economically since independence. Good education and hard work ethics have helped the current generation of Marathis become wealthy and prominent citizens in their communities. Today they are an integral part of Zimbabwe's business community.

Ministry Obstacles
The Hindu Marathis equate Hinduism with their heart culture. They attribute their economic prosperity to specific gods and believe in karma for their eternal destiny.

Outreach Ideas
Personal evangelism and clear explanation of the gospel might be helpful in drawing them to Christ.

Scripture Focus
"And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign."  Revelation 11:16-17

Scripture Prayer
Pray for today’s people group to worship the true God for His great power and sovereignty over the universe.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the few followers of Christ among the Marathis in Zimbabwe would exhibit the fruit of the Holy Spirit in their lives and draw others to the only Savior. Pray for the Lord to give the Marathi Hindus in Zimbabwe a receptive minds to understand and embrace their need for Christ. Pray for a powerful church planting movement.
