Turkmen in Turkmenistan
TERK-men

The Turkmen originally were a nomadic people and did not settle in cities and towns until the advent of the Soviet system of government. The nomadic Turkmen hold tightly onto their culture. This has resulted in many pre-Soviet cultural traits surviving in Turkmen society. Recent settlements and revivals heralded the return of a moderate form of Islam while secularism and atheism remain prominent for many Turkmen intellectuals.

Ministry Obstacles
Constitutionally, there is freedom of religion but, in practice, there is limited freedom which hinders the spread of gospel.

Outreach Ideas
The Turkmen believers need training and encouragement to carry the gospel to their countrymen.

Scripture Focus
"For "All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever." And this word is the good news that was preached to you."  1 Peter 1:24-25

Scripture Prayer
Pray that as the word of God is shared with this people group and that they see its truth and beauty.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the Turkmen who know Christ would become wise in sowing the word of God among their families and to other Turkmen households. Pray for the believers among the Turkmen, that they would be accurately instructed in the faith and would grow in their love for Christ and each other. Pray that the Lord would give Turkmen families understanding and responsive hearts as they hear about the love of Christ. Pray for spiritual hunger among the Turkmen. Pray for them to have full freedom of religion in their country and to worship safely as they choose.
