Yazidi in Germany
yah-ZEE-dee

Beliefs borrowed from Zoroastrianism (worship of sun and fire); Hinduism (reincarnation and caste system); Judaism (all the prophets and angels); Christianity (they associate Easter eggs and infant baptism with Christianity); and Islam (saint veneration, fasting and ritual prayer) make up the religion of the Yazidi. They have been persecuted and misunderstood by Muslims controlling them for centuries. In 2014, many of them fled the persecution by ISIS in Iraq and Syria, finding refuge in such places as Germany, where almost all the Yazidi from Turkey now live, especially in Niedersachsen and Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Ministry Obstacles
Yazidis are sometimes hostile to any attempt to convert from their religious beliefs. Leaders have stepped in at times to try to prevent the preaching of the gospel to members of the group.

Outreach Ideas
Outreach currently underway to meet the physical, emotional and educational needs of this group has resulted in a response to the gospel demonstrated in a compassionate manner.

Scripture Focus
"And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him."  John 8:29

Scripture Prayer
Pray for today’s people group to begin to please God by trusting in and obeying His Son.

Prayer Focus
A handful of Yazidi have come to faith in Christ. Pray they would be free to practice their faith, as the Yazidi have historically persecuted and even stoned to death those who convert. ISIS sympathizers have attacked the group even in Germany. Pray for true peace among these displaced and traumatized people.
