Awan in Pakistan
ah-WAHN

The Awan of northern Pakistan are known for being valiant warriors. They were recruited as soldiers by the British during the colonial period and in both world wars. The Awan are part of the Zamindar or landowning class of Pakistan. They cultivate their land and hire others to help them. Today, many Awan serve in the Pakistani military. Violence and feuds are common in north Pakistan, where the Awan live. Many resources are available in the Awan's primary language of Western Punjabi, including the New Testament and the JESUS Film.

Ministry Obstacles
Unfortunately, there are no known Awan believers. The Awan have been Muslims for centuries. Being a Muslim is part of their personal identity. An Awan who decides to follow Isa (Jesus) will face persecution from his or her family and community.

Outreach Ideas
Radio programs in Western Punjabi can bring the good news to the Awan. Copies of the JESUS Film can be distributed and shown in northern Pakistan.

Scripture Focus
"The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"  John 1:29

Scripture Prayer
Pray that today’s people group looks to the Lamb of God, Jesus, to have their sins taken away.

Prayer Focus
Pray for peace in the area where the Awan live. Pray that Awan would be led by the Spirit to listen to radio programs and connect to Christian resources on the internet. Pray for the Lord to do miracles and raise up a body of believers among the Awan of Pakistan.
