Dungan in Kyrgyzstan
DUNG-un

The Dungan originated in the Kansu and Shensi provinces of northwestern China, but today there are people from Kansu living in the mountains and valleys of Kyrgyzstan. Culturally, the Dungan are similar to the Han Chinese, but their language is greatly influenced by Arabic, Persian and Turkish. They are a proud, hospitable, nationalistic and conservative people who refer to themselves as “Chinese Muslims” despite having cut ties with China.

Ministry Obstacles
The Dungan are famous for their hospitality and diversity, which would usually make it easier for religion to spread; however, they have had little opportunity to hear the gospel. At present, they remain nominally Muslim, both in China and in Kyrgyzstan. We know of no Dungans who have put their faith in Christ except in Mongolia.

Outreach Ideas
The few Dungan Christian believers in Mongolia can share their faith with those in Kyrgyzstan. The JESUS Film and portions of Scripture already exist in the Dungan language.

Scripture Focus
"Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the LORD of hosts is his name."  Jeremiah 51:19

Scripture Prayer
Pray for today’s people group to soon become part of the Lord’s inheritance.

Prayer Focus
Pray for peace in Kyrgyzstan and for a stable, effective and just government. Pray for a movement to Christ to spread and benefit everyone spiritually, physically and economically. Pray that the few followers of Christ among the Dungan would fellowship together and hear the call to share the gospel with their neighbors.
