Gosain in India
The Gosain are traditionally a community of homeless, wandering ascetics who have renounced material pleasures to become sadhus (saints), and who live by collecting alms and looking after temples. However, many have now turned to other ways to make a living, such as farming and dairy, and some are landowners. Smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol are common. Shiva is their main god. Also, they worship male and female clan gods. They do ceremonies they believe will rid them of evil spirits and please their god. They particularly celebrate Maha Shivaratri, which means the great night of Shiva.
Ministry Obstacles Most of the Gosain live in India, but small numbers live also in Bangladesh and Nepal. None of these countries provide a warm welcome to Christian missionaries.
Outreach Ideas Pray for prayer warriors to be raised up to intercede for peoples such as the Gosain. Strong spiritual strongholds must be overcome through prayer.
Pray for the followers of Christ It is not likely there are any followers of Jesus Christ among the Gosain of India, Nepal, or Bangladesh. If there are believers we need to pray they will be completely set free from spiritual bondage.
Pray for the entire people group Pray the Lord will set the Gosain community completely free from the bonds of evil spirits and the occult. Pray for the spiritual freedom they need to comprehend the Gospel message and place saving faith in Christ.
Scripture Focus "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed." Acts 17:30-31
