Jaunsari in India
JON-saw-ree

Do you ever want to go back to Bible days? You might feel like you are doing that by visiting the Jaunsari community in Uttarakhand, They still plow with oxen instead of a plowshare. Like the Hebrew Patriarchs, they may marry more than one spouse, although Jaunsari women can have more than one husband. They are divided by two mountain and valley homelands and dialects. They live in colorful houses with pagoda-style roofs, which they leave to cultivate fields and to graze cattle and goats.

Ministry Obstacles
The first obstacle is the terrain and elevation, making them hard to access. They speak two different languages.

Outreach Ideas
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, may be a bridge of God. John 8:12b: "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."

Scripture Focus
"I say to the LORD, You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you."  Psalm 16:2

Scripture Prayer
Pray that this people group will understand that they have many good things, all of which came only from God the creator.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the few believers would allow the Holy Spirit to direct them in all they do and say. We need to pray that the Jaunsari would lose confidence in their gods and see Jesus as the only answer to their fears of ghosts and spirits. Pray for a powerful Christian witness, leading to a Disciple Making Movement.
