Darwazi in Afghanistan
dare-VOZ-ee

How would you like to visit a land with snowcapped mountains and rushing streams of water? This is the beautiful geography that both surrounds and isolates the small towns of the Darwazi people of northeastern Afghanistan. Unfortunately, the water they need for crops and grazing animals flows into neighboring Tajikistan, Pakistan and China. Younger Darwazis receive some education, which is taught in Dari, Afghanistan's elite trade language, but older adults only speak Darwazi. All trading is done by the men in Dari. Although a few radios have connected them to the outside world, they are still mostly isolated, so medical assistance and medicine are a major need. They have a high mortality rate among their women and children due to difficulties in childbirth. Darwazis follow Sunni Islam and accept the radical interpretation of it. Some memorize parts of the Koran, but they do not understand most of what they read. Christianity is considered shameful and unacceptable.

Ministry Obstacles
Taliban oppression has made it dangerous for workers to enter, and there is only limited availability of Christian resources in this isolated land.

Outreach Ideas
Providing literature and radio programs with culturally appropriate music to the Darwazis will help them to embrace the living Lord.

Scripture Focus
"And you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, which if a person does them, he shall live by them, and they turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not obey."  Nehemiah 9:29

Scripture Prayer
Pray that when this people group hears the word that they will respond with heart-felt obedience.

Prayer Focus
Pray that God would thrust out Afghan believers in reaching these people with much needed medical supplies and anointed prayer for the sick.
