Azeri Turk in Türkiye (Turkey)
uh-ZARE-ee terk

The Azeri Turks in Turkey straddle the Turkish and Persian worlds! Their language is Turkish-based, but their religion is Shi 'ite Islam. Most speak Azerbaijani and Turkish, two similar languages. The Azeri Turks feel at home in Turkish society. They live mainly in Igdir, where they are the largest people group and also in Kars, where they are the second largest group. Most Azeri Turks came to Turkey in the first half of the twentieth century. Since the early 1990s many more came for financial reasons.

Ministry Obstacles
The Azeri Turks have very little contact with any Christian believers.

Outreach Ideas
There are believers in nearby Iran, some of whom are Azeri Turks, who can be Christ bearers. Pray for them to make contact with the Azeri Turks in Turkey and begin to plant churches among them.

Scripture Focus
"and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also."  2 Timothy 2:2

Scripture Prayer
Use this verse to pray for a disciple making movement among this people group.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the Holy Spirit to penetrate and enlighten their hearts with the knowledge of Christ. Pray that God would give Azeri Turk elders dreams and visions, leading them to Jesus Christ. Pray they would open the door for Christ to permeate Azeri Turk communities. Pray for a full Bible translation, and for it to be widely distributed and read.
