Zaramo in Tanzania
zah-RAH-moh

Zaramo marriages are usually polygamous and divorce is frequent. Their family names come from the mother's side. They divide their society into clans which recognize a common descent. The children always belong to the clan of their mother rather than their father. A significant event for the family and clan is the birth of a child, especially if this child is a girl, since this ensures the passing on of the family name. Zaramo are predominantly Muslim and observe basic Islamic practices; however, many have mixed Islamic beliefs with their traditional ethnic religion. Traditional Zaramo believe in one supreme being called Mulungu.

Ministry Obstacles
Tribal hostilities may make it difficult for Christian tribes to take the good news of Christ to the Zaramo people.

Outreach Ideas
There are many strongly Christian tribes in Tanzania. They need the burden to share Christ with the Zaramo people. It will be difficult, but the Holy Spirit can move through them.

Scripture Focus
"And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."  Hebrews 11:6

Scripture Prayer
Pray for this people group to come to God and understand that He will reward them with His truth.

Prayer Focus
There are a few followers of Jesus among the Zaramo. Pray that these Christians would faithfully fellowship together, considering how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Pray for them to disciple their families in the ways of Christ. Pray for improved literacy levels for the Zaramo and for strong, loving marriages.
