Alawite in Syria
AH-lah-wite

The Alawites believe themselves to be the chosen people of God, the only ones to have seen the light in a world of darkness. They have survived as a distinct group in spite of repeated persecution and the threat of extinction by the Sunni majority and rulers who considered them pagans and heretics. The Alawites believe that all people were stars in the world of light but fell from there due to disobedience. If they are sinful, they will be reborn as Christians until they complete their atonement. Infidels will be reborn as animals. The common Alawite person does not even know his group's teachings.

Ministry Obstacles
The Alawites believe that to leave their religion marks one as a traitor.

Outreach Ideas
The gospel is widely available throughout the Middle East, in electronic form. They can discover how easy it is to download scripture, recordings, videos and other resources to their computers and phones.

Scripture Focus
"But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises."  Hebrews 8:6

Scripture Prayer
Pray for today’s people to realize that their works will never make them pleasing to God. Pray they trust in the grace of God found only in Christ.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the few Alawites who have decided to accept Jesus as their lord. They need encouragement and prayer support. Pray the Lord would use turmoil in the Middle East to point people toward Jesus the Prince of Peace, Immanuel, God with us.
