Maranao in Philippines
mare-ah-NOW

Maranao is the term used for the inhabitants of Lanao, a predominantly Muslim region on the island of Mindanao. The word Maranao means "people of the lake." The people are famous for their artwork, sophisticated weaving, wood and metal craft, and epic literature. Small communities of Maranaos, mostly traders, live in all major towns of the Philippines. They are the descendants of Muslim Malays.

Ministry Obstacles
To follow Jesus within this Muslim community is to invite criticism and ostracism within their families.

Outreach Ideas
Perhaps the Christians among the Maranao people will grow in maturity and in numbers to the extent they will be able to effectively carry the gospel of Christ to their own people.

Scripture Focus
"And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."  Acts 2:4

Scripture Prayer
Pray for this people group to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to proclaim the greatness of God.

Prayer Focus
Pray for Maranao believers to become effective and fruitful in sowing God's Word among their families. Pray for the Holy Spirit to empower them to fuel a movement of God's blessings spreading from household to household. Pray for them to be zealous as they learn the ways of Christ. Pray they would be united around the truth of Scripture. Pray the Lord would reveal himself to the Maranao people. Pray for them to experience a movement to Christ this decade that will bless them economically and spiritually.
