Greek Jewish in Greece
greek joo

Before WWII, Jews in Greece led a relatively peaceful life. Unfortunately, when the German armies took over Greece in 1941, the Nazis began to deport the Jews to the death camps of Central Europe. Over 80% of the Greek Jewish population was murdered. Greeks were able to hide some of their Jewish friends. The descendants of those Jews make up the small group of Jews who live in Greece today. Jews are concentrated in Greek cities such as Thessaloniki and Athens. Most Jews speak Greek in their homes and families.

Ministry Obstacles
Many Jews blame Christians for the Holocaust of WWII. Germany was considered a "Christian" nation before WWII. Jews are even hostile to discussing the claims of Jesus Christ.

Outreach Ideas
Christians can reach out and build friendships with their Jewish neighbors. Radio and TV programs in Greek can proclaim the life-saving gospel of Christ.

Scripture Focus
"Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever."  Psalm 145:2

Scripture Prayer
Pray for many from this people group to regularly praise the Lord and worship Him.

Prayer Focus
There are few if any Messianic Jews among the Greek Jews. Pray that the ones who will soon trust in their Messiah will grow in the faith. Ask the Lord to raise up a Messianic body of disciples among the Jews of Greece. Pray that the Lord would open the spiritual eyes of the Greek Jews as they read and study the Bible.
